ART | FAIRMONT BAKU FLAME TOWERS
ALONG THE SILK ROAD
The Fairmont Baku Flame Towers was an ambitious development built to spark international travel to this historic city located on the silk road. The art program had to have the prestige of a world-class collection and ignite the interest in Azerbaijan’s arts and culture.
FEATURED ART INSTALLATION
The key art piece of the hotel is a sculptural installation in the lobby. The concept is based on Baku’s location along the historic Silk Road, which was a network of trade and cultural transmission routes dating back to 200 BC. The installation represents the gathering of different nations in Baku. Five alems, or metal finial, designs representing different continents and regions involved in the silk road trading routes were created. The alems are grouped to represent the unity of different cultures in Baku today and are set against a digitally printed artwork that represents the texture of the period as a backdrop.
